| The light housing. Until a few days ago, the West Light – visible for 23 nautical miles - flashed white every 15 seconds. Within a given geographical area, every lighthouse has a unique flash characteristic (i.e. the timing and colour of the flash and the rhythm of periods of light and dark), and this distinctive flash pattern enables mariners to confirm which lighthouse they are observing. | |
