Before starting the project, Susan had not appreciated the scale of the island. To gain a feel for Sable, Susan looked at thousands of images. Some she found in the Green Horse website. Also, for the months Susan worked on the illustrations, she had access to Zoe’s digital files, each holding many hundreds of images each, on various topics (seals, birds, horses, vegetation etc).
