Common goose barnacles Lepas anatifera still alive on a wooden crate freshly washed ashore on north beach, August 1986. Floating objects - buoys, bottles, drift logs, tar balls - are normal habitat for these barnacles. The swimming larvae of goose barnacles are attracted to, and settle on, the shaded undersides of objects at sea.
