The flag of the Province of Nova Scotia flying on Sable Island. Nova Scotia is Latin for “New Scotland”. The province’s flag bears two ancient symbols of Scotland: Saint Andrew’s Cross (a saltire with colours reversed), and the Shield of the Royal Arms of Scotland. The Shield presents a red lion rampant “armed and langued azure” (the latter refers to azure blue colour of the lion’s claws and tongue). |
