Supplies of DND and CCG helicopter fuel are contained in 45 gallon metal drums held on several wooden platforms at the edge of the landing pad. Combined, the two agencies maintain a supply of about 10,000 litres (50 drums) at the secondary helipad. In drum storage, Jet A1 fuel has a shelf life of one year. Once the seal on the drum is broken, the fuel in the drum must be used or discarded. However, in a storage facility such as EnCana's, the fuel can be sampled and analysed to verify its condition and to determine when the fuel should be rotated.
