As soon as Sambro was fully delivered, Nemo stood. Sambro's front feet broke through the amniotic membrane and he was able to take his first breaths. As Nemo moved about, the membrane was pulled away from the foal's body, leaving him wet and shivering slightly. Sambro lay at Nemo's feet as she sniffed and licked him. Licking helps to dry the foal's wet coat, and may also establish the bond between mother and foal.
