With the helicopter flying at an altitude of 245 m, each photo captured 5.73 ha of the island's landscape (not counting overlap), and a total of 915 photos provided full coverage of Sable Island. The photos were taken in a series of 28 lines. In good conditions, all 28 lines could be flown in a day. Most of the January 2004 survey was done on the 12th, with the eastern end of the island completed the next day.
