A newborn pup.  Each female Grey Seal gives birth to one white-coated pup weighing about 16 kg.  The eerie warbling vocalizations of the Grey Seals can be heard day and night.  Such vocalizations are one of several characteristics which, in the old days, caused fisherfolk in the Northeastern Atlantic to call the Grey Seals "selchies" - a people of the sea.
