A bit of seal tissue protruding from sand along the tideline indicates that there is much more buried. Some digging exposes a carcass of a shark-killed seal - freshly washed ashore but covered in sand carried in by the waves. It is likely that a number of carcasses were not found during the surveys - some bodies of shark-killed seals may not have washed ashore, and others that did wash ashore may have been quickly buried by wind-blown sand during storms. |
