Results of the Sable Island study indicated that shark predation has had an impact on the harbour seals, possibly limiting population growth or contributing to the decline in pup production observed during the 1990s. Over 60% of the adult harbour seals killed during 1993-1997 were reproductive age females (see Lucas & Stobo 2000).
