During the study of shark predation on Sable Island, many experts were consulted - not only scientists studying marine mammals and sharks, and professional fishermen, but also historians and pathologists. In 2002 specimens of shark-killed Sable Island seals were examined by Dr. Charles Wetli and his colleagues at the Office of the Medical Examiner, Suffolk County, New York.
