A fragment of the Merrimac.  All that remains now of the Merrimac are a few recognizable sections on south beach, and many small pieces scattered inland where they have been carried by winds and winter flooding.  Here on the island, little is known about the Merrimac.  We know that in July 1999 she departed Newport, Rhode Island, for a transatlantic voyage, and on July 27th she was wrecked on Sable Island.
