Very occasionally found on the beach - in the aftermath of big storms and heavy seas - are water-logged fragments of wooden ships long-ago wrecked at Sable Island. Spikes and copper-sheathing are burnished by the abrading action of sand and water. Such remnants do not remain exposed for long - within a few days they are re-buried by sand or pulled back into the ocean. |
