Being the only land at the outer edge of the Scotian Shelf, Sable Island provides a valuable platform for collecting observations relevant various marine issues, for example, cetacean strandings, marine litter, and oiled seabirds. Data collected from stranded whales and dolphins provide information on distribution and seasonality, and collected specimens – such as the skulls shown here - are archived in museums and available for future research.
