A young Grey Seal entangled in a snarl of heavy monofilament fishing line.  Since garbage and debris generated by human activities on Sable Island is incinerated or removed from the Island, all litter found on the beaches is delivered by the ocean.  Beached litter surveys provide information on trends in amount, type and sources of debris entering the marine environment.   (The seal was captured and freed of the entanglement.)
