In October 2005, a seismic station for earthquake detection was installed in the instrumentation field at the Sable Island Station. Information provided by the system, part of the Atlantic Region Teleseismic Experiment (a network of stations), will be used to study local seismic patterns and hazards, and to study the deep earth structure and sedimentary basins beneath Atlantic Canada.
