Horses grazing on the south beach dunes, in an area of beach grass and beach pea (with “Bald Dune” in the distance). The vegetation of Sable Island provides essential habitat and/or food for most other organisms in the island, such as birds, horses, and invertebrates. The latter includes six endemic species: a fresh-water sponge, a beetle, a nematode and three moths.
