A ground beetle Carabus maeander found on Sable Island, near the freshwater ponds, in June 2005. This species had not been previously recorded on Sable Island. That a species new to the island can still be found supports the view not all of the island’s "biodiversity value" is known. Stewardship provided by the Station ensures that habitats – including those of possibly yet-to-be-discovered species - are preserved.
