A Common Tern chick hiding in vegetation in one of the many nesting colonies on Sable Island.   The Island supports one of the largest mixed-species populations of terns in Canada.  Two of the Island’s breeding birds - the Roseate Tern and Ipswich Sparrow - are designated by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) as species at risk.
