The Ipswich Sparrow Passerculus sandwichensis princeps (considered by some authorities to be a sub-species of the Savannah Sparrow) is another of Sable Island’s endemic species. The sparrow nests and forages in the low vegetation cover of dunes and inland fields. Without the year-round human presence on Sable Island, damage caused by unregulated activities on the vegetated terrain would be a serious threat to this population. |
