The Sable Island Station is a complex of sixteen buildings - accommodations, fuel, food and materials storage, garage and carpentry shop, generator units, incinerator and sewage treatment plant, and office and research facilities. Generally each building is situated at least 50 m away from any other. This is a safeguard - should fire break out, the separation of structures makes it less likely to spread.
