In February 1984 during the gas blowout at the Shell-Uniacke jack-up rig located near the east end of Sable Island, the station provided accommodations and assisted with co-ordination and communication for aircraft and personnel involved in the well-control program. Here the SAR helicopter stands by on the north beach at the east tip of the island, the closest point to the rig.
