Diesel fuel, delivered to Sable Island once a year by CCG ship, is stored in eight tanks (the "tank farm"). Although the station does not use that much fuel during a year, there must be extra on hand so that the station will not run short if there is a prolonged delay in the arrival of the next year's ship.
