While most deliveries and back-load can be carried by helicopter between the CCG ship and the island, some items are too large or unwieldy and must be transported between ship and island by barge. When two fuel storage tanks were replaced in 1991, the decommissioned tanks, being floatable, were towed by CCG barge from the beach out to the ship.
