The “hydrogen shed” at the Sable Island Station. Year-round atmospheric profiles are measured by balloon-borne radiosondes that transmit meteorological data back to ground equipment located at the Station. The balloons are filled with hydrogen gas manufactured on site. These flights are conducted twice daily, and the balloons are launched at 1115 and 2315 GMT. During the tropospheric ozone studies, O3 sensors were deployed once daily, coupled with the evening radiosonde launch.
