Kelly Spokes launches an ozonesonde. Of the 31 scheduled ozonesonde deployments on Sable Island during IONS-2006, 29 were successful. One failed due to an equipment fault just before release, and the other failed after release, possibly due to premature bursting of the balloon. Of the 29 successful flights, 28 provided data of excellent quality. Kelly is normally based in Eureka (Nunavut), but her two month stint on Sable happily coincided with the 2006 IONS program. She has a good deal of experience with ozonesondes—the Eureka Station conducts weekly ozonesonde launches year-round.
