A proposed Air Quality Management Zone – it includes Nova Scotia, its coastal waters, and offshore waters extending out to the edge of the continental shelf (i.e. the Scotian Shelf). The latter includes Sable Island ('X' marks the spot). Although based on the concept of “watershed”, an “airshed” is difficult to define; there are no clear boundaries to the flow of chemicals in the atmosphere as there are for the flow of surface and ground waters in watersheds. Generally, an airshed is a geographic area that, because of topography, meteorology, and/or climate, is frequently affected by the same air masses.
