The smoky plume that was emitted almost continuously during 1999 to 2003, from the flare stack of the Thebaud platform (10 km southwest of Sable Island) is an example of atmospheric pollution, within the airshed, generated by the offshore energy industry. Although these emissions are of interest for the airshed monitoring program, such pollution also has impacts on the greater atmospheric and marine environment
