Aerosol Monitoring equipment 1997

Greenhouse Gases Monitoring equipment 2003

Inside the air chemistry building. The building has housed equipment for many research programs - example, an atmospheric turbidity study. By measuring the intensity of sunlight at various wavelengths, the transparency of the atmosphere is determined, and this provides an indication of turbidity (`dirt') in the atmosphere - dirt includes soot, salt, dust, insects, pollen etc. This program was started in 1981 by MSC's Air Quality Branch, and continued by NOAA in the mid 1990s. The study ended in 1997.
