West Light on a foggy day.  Fog is essentially a ground-level cloud. Fog and cloud are composed of microscopic water droplets which are highly effective at collecting materials - solids (aerosol) and gases - present in the air, and act as sinks for many gaseous pollutants such as nitric acid, ammonia and sulphur dioxide.
