Occasionally the fog collector is deployed during periods without fog to take a "blank" measurement. This is to determine if there are local sources of contamination. After being exposed to dry air flow, the collector is brought indoors, and washed again with DDI water. The water washing over the collector picks up accumulated contaminants and flows into the sample bottle. These "dry air" samples, as well as fog water samples, are sent to the Environment Canada lab in Moncton, New Brunswick, for analysis.
