The leg of a deer on the beach.  One morning in March 1987, people on Sable Island found large chunks of ice freshly ashore, from one end of the island to the other.  Beached along with the ice were carcasses of one sperm whale and a dozen or so white-tailed deer.  Where did the deer come from...?   One possibility is that they'd been caught on ice drifting away from the mainland.  March 1987 was also notable because Halifax Harbour, normally open year-round, became choked with ice.
