Bottles containing notes, and scientific devices such as satellite transmitters (which were at one time attached to seals), are sometimes found on the beach. While most bottles contain personal messages from people on ships, this bottle was deployed as part of a drift study and was dropped off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
