Small numbers of summer visitors arrive by boat, some on cruise ships, some on private yachts. There are no wharves or docking facilities at Sable Island, and vessels must drop anchor offshore, usually within 0.3 to 1.0 km of the beach. Vessels normally anchor off the north side of the Island, in the vicinity of West Light and the Station – although the light has been turned off, the West Light tower serves as a visual marker. |
