A view of the south beach flooded by ocean swell. Only the exposed higher area of berm far in the distance indicates the seaward margin of the inundated beach. High winds, heavy rain and/or storm surge can obliterate the landing strip. Winds may pile new sand on the beach, making the landing area too soft, or may scour the beach making it too irregular for landing. Overnight visitors should keep in mind that this can sometimes occur while they’re on the Island, thus delaying their return to the mainland. |
