A Sable Island mare with a foal and a yearling - the yearling does not belong to the mare, but approached her foal in search of a playmate. All flora and fauna on the Island’s dunes and beaches are vulnerable to disturbance. Of the horses, mares with young foals are particularly at risk. The Sable Island horses are protected by law – do NOT attempt to chase, handle or feed the horses. Don’t bring treats such as sugar and apples for the horses.
