Bottom-mounted ADCP and frame half-buried in sand.  ADCPs are vulnerable to the high-energy environment surrounding Sable Island.  This ADCP was buried by sand stirred up during a storm event near Venture in November 2000, and data quality was temporarily degraded.  Subsequent storms cleared away the sand and the instrument was again fully operational, but this illustrates the advantage of a surface down-looking buoy-mounted ADCP to avoid loss of data and equipment due to burial.
